DEPART is a spectacular spellbinding show from internationally acclaimed Australian circus artists, Circa. Inspired by the ancient Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice, DEPART will transform one of Blackpool’s public spaces into the underworld.
Shirley Baker: On The Beach
20 May – 19 August 2017 @ Grundy Art Gallery
This summer, Grundy Art Gallery presents a significant new exhibition of the Salford-born photographer and social documentarian Shirley Baker (1932-2014). ‘On the Beach’ takes a look at holiday-makers from both Blackpool and the sun-drenched Mediterranean resort of the Côte d’Azur. The two bodies of photographs, taken five years apart in the 1970s, reflect upon these two very different seaside settings and explore our cultural imagination with regard to ‘the body’ and its potential for pleasure. Blackpool Tower Circus has been providing spectacular entertainment in Blackpool since the doors first opened on 14 May 1894. One of the greatest shows in Blackpool, and beyond!

Emma Hart and Jonathan Baldock: Love Life

Love Life is a major commission by Jonathan Baldock and Emma Hart, presented as an exhibition in three acts from 2016 to 2017.
The artists have radically re-imagined the traditional seaside show Punch and Judy, transforming the characters’ puppet booth living quarters into an oversized and darkly humorous place where the ever-present threat of violence acquires a new resonance in an era where cyber-bullying is more prevalent. Love Life is the artists’ most ambitious collaboration to date evolves in scale, form and content in three acts at three venues over a year. More information here
