Along with 15 Museum Volunteers the team visited various destinations around the UK to collect people’s memories of Blackpool.
On our UK tour we visited Museums and shopping centres in Bradford, Bolton and Glasgow, three places that have traditional journeyed to Blackpool on family or group holidays.
We spoke to 285 members of the public and recorded 108 stories on film and written accounts of their memories of food, accommodation, entertainment, journeys, excitement, disappointment, love found and lost and lots of funny stories. We even managed to get some people dancing, singing and crying with joy when ask ‘what does Blackpool mean to you?’
Back in Blackpool we based our team of memory catchers on the Comedy Carpet, in the Houndshill and at the Armed Forces day in St. Johns Square, talking and recording the stories of over 100 local people. This gave us more of an insight into what it is like to grow up, live and work in Blackpool. Stories of working in boarding houses, behind the scenes on the shows and many anecdotes about the fun had dancing in the ballrooms.
We aim to bring all of these stories together to create a film all about people and their personal memories of this incredible seaside town. Coming soon!
